Popebama

"The problem is not having this orientation, it is lobbying," he said. "That's the most serious problem I think."

"If someone is gay and seeks the Lord with good will, who am I to judge?"
Obama - ur tidigare inlägg:
I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don't Ask Don't Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.
Böga lagom, alltså. Och från worth1000:

Havskatter och kultur

Från Entertainment Web:
Paris-born artist Anne-Catherine Becker-Echivard, uses market-fresh fish to create her wacky scenes. After she is done photographing, she cooks and eats them. “It is the perfect recycling of art. Nothing is left over - and I can live from it,” she said.

Incentives matter

Från Failbook:
Ur kommentarerna:
Doin' what they have to do. Until a year or so ago, the McDonalds near the dorm I used to stay in would be drive-thru only after 8:30 pm even though they were "open" 24-hours. The dining hall closed at 7 and there were literally no other fast food places within walking distance. We'd see people going through in shopping carts, bikes, you name it. The McD people would always get snippy, but it's their own fault. Obviously there is a demand, students are hungry and desperate, and they just didn't want to do anything about it.

Streisandeffekten för film, igen

Från Torrentfreak, via Reddit:
While there are often disputes over what age rating films should be awarded, New Zealand’s censors have just gone a step further by banning a horror film from any kind of public distribution. The censors say that Maniac, a serial killer flick starring Elijah Wood, is potentially “injurious to the public good” and cannot be shown in theaters or released on DVD. Maniac’s distributor says that the banning is an “invitation to piracy” and the signs are that’s exactly what’s happening.
Well now I HAVE to see it

Just under two years ago authorities in the United States busted one of the most important movie piracy release groups on the planet. In recent months its members have been handed some of the harshest copyright-related sentences on record but immediately after the raids something interesting happened. Instead of running for cover, pirates regrouped and the piracy situation actually got worse.

57% of Americans surveyed in MSNBC Poll say they would vote to replace every member of congress if they could.

/u/AmoebaCowboy sammanfattar Peltzman-effekten

Från Wikipedia:
Risk compensation (also Peltzman effect or risk homeostasis) is an observed effect in ethology whereby people tend to adjust their behavior in response to the perceived level of risk, behaving less cautiously where they feel more protected and more cautiously where they feel a higher level of risk.
Fuck that invisible shit. I ride like I've been dipped in rainbow clown paint, covered with neon glitter & disco lights, and have magnesium flares that are visible from SPACE shoot out of my ass every second and the first person to successfully hit me wins a billion dollars and free on-demand blowjobs for life. I ride like it is everyone's job to try to kill me. I've found that, for me, this keeps me on my toes and aware of my environment.

Ur artikeln The 6 Worst Trades Ever Made in Exchange for Sex:

If Wal-Mart wants you to murder someone to get that $5 DVD of The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, you go to Best Buy and get it there instead.

Eighteen of the defendants were found guilty while three were acquitted. Eleven of the guilty were sentenced to death by hanging, the remainder received prison sentences ranging from 10 years to life.

The maximum U.S. penalty for desertion in wartime remains death

He pleaded guilty in February 2013 to 10 of the 22 charges, which could carry a sentence of up to 20 years. Prosecutors will pursue a court-martial on the remaining charges, including aiding the enemy, which could carry a life sentence.

Look at this description of Detroit from today’s Observer:

What isn’t dumped is stolen. Factories and homes have largely been stripped of anything of value, so thieves now target cars’ catalytic converters. Illiteracy runs at around 47%; half the adults in some areas are unemployed. In many neighbourhoods, the only sign of activity is a slow trudge to the liquor store.

Now have a look at the uncannily prophetic description of Starnesville, a Mid-Western town in Ayn Rand’s dystopian novel, Atlas Shrugged. Starnesville had been home to the great Twentieth Century Motor Company, but declined as a result of socialism:

A few houses still stood within the skeleton of what had once been an industrial town. Everything that could move, had moved away; but some human beings had remained. The empty structures were vertical rubble; they had been eaten, not by time, but by men: boards torn out at random, missing patches of roofs, holes left in gutted cellars. It looked as if blind hands had seized whatever fitted the need of the moment, with no concept of remaining in existence the next morning. The inhabited houses were scattered at random among the ruins; the smoke of their chimneys was the only movement visible in town. A shell of concrete, which had been a schoolhouse, stood on the outskirts; it looked like a skull, with the empty sockets of glassless windows, with a few strands of hair still clinging to it, in the shape of broken wires.
Beyond the town, on a distant hill, stood the factory of the Twentieth Century Motor Company. Its walls, roof lines and smokestacks looked trim, impregnable like a fortress. It would have seemed intact but for a silver water tank: the water tank was tipped sidewise.
They saw no trace of a road to the factory in the tangled miles of trees and hillsides. They drove to the door of the first house in sight that showed a feeble signal of rising smoke. The door was open. An old woman came shuffling out at the sound of the motor. She was bent and swollen, barefooted, dressed in a garment of flour sacking. She looked at the car without astonishment, without curiosity; it was the blank stare of a being who had lost the capacity to feel anything but exhaustion.
“Can you tell me the way to the factory?” asked Rearden.
The woman did not answer at once; she looked as if she would be unable to speak English. “What factory?” she asked.
Rearden pointed. “That one.”
“It’s closed.”

Now here’s the really extraordinary thing. When Ayn Rand published those words in 1957, Detroit was, on most measures, the city with the highest per capita GDP in the United States.
